Fiber Arts Friday - Unexpected Journey

Welcome to Fiber Arts Friday -- The Hobbit Edition!  After months, even years of waiting for the release of The Hobbit, the day has finally arrived.  Yes, I already have my tickets pre-purchased and yes, I am counting down the hours until I can go see it at the IMAX.  In honor of the release, I am going to share with you my newest handspun yarn, The Hobbit Hole.

I offered a 3 Month Spinning Batt club during October and November with the first shipment arriving last week for the December premier (squeals, that's today) of The Hobbit.  Each person received 2.5oz of my Alpaca blend fiber batt to spin.  I, of course, chose to keep a couple of batts for myself and this is the yarn I produced.  I did make a few extra batts which I will be posting for sale this weekend.

“In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit.”
― J.R.R. TolkienThe Hobbit

I ended up with a 3 ply yarn at  244 yards.  I sold the yarn while it was still on the bobbin so this weekend it will be mailed to it's new owner.  Golly, I sure love the power of the internet ;-)

I first became a fan of The Hobbit when I was a little girl.  I read the book which was a part of a learn to read series including a cassette tape.    By middle school I had read the full version of the book.  I have always adored the writings of Tolkien and can't wait to see how Peter Jackson brings the story to life.  Squeal!
Besides living in my dreamworld of Middle Earth, I also managed to knit another ornament.  This creature can also be found in a hole although not as cute as a Hobbit.  It's another ornament from the Snow Buddies Collection.  I ended up wet felting a little ball that I sewed on for the tail.  I couldn't knit everything now, could I?

Thank you for stopping by and linking in.  I always appreciate your comments. Now, share your adventures in Fiber Arts!

  3. Happy Fiber Arts Friday! I hope the movie is everything you want it to be. I too read The Hobbit in middle school. That was so many years ago I hardly remember but I do still have the paperback that I read. I'd like to see it sometime soon. Your fiber and yarn is so beautiful!

  11. OH, I wish I could spin. That yarn is scrumptious! Every color in that strand is "my color". I hope the movie lives up to your expectations! I'm pretty eager to see it, but waiting to go next weekend with my family. :-D

  12. Your yarn is beautiful. Saw a Harry Potter movie on IMAX and got dizzy from trying to follow all the flying scenes on that big screen.

  14. I agree - that batt and resulting yarn are great!!!!!

I read The Hobbit in school but don't really remember it, so I might fall in the Kathryn Ray camp. Although I lived in an apartment once that was ground level with very low ceilings and someone nicknamed it my Hobbit Home, so does that count? :)
